Sustainable development challenges are present everywhere and affect everyone and everything, from food, energy, ecosystem resources, and economic growth to health and social wellbeing, not to mention equity concerns. Today’s youth understand that their own future, as well as the future of our planet, depends on how we address these challenges.
Despite more than 4,000 miles separating Hawai‘i and Aotearoa (the Māori name for New Zealand, which literally means “land of the long white cloud”), connections between the two cultures remain strong. In ancient chants still used today, Māori refer to “Hawaiki Atua,” or its derivative Hawai‘i, as their legendary homeland.
